Grad Students Complete Teaching Institute

Thirty graduate students completed NC State’s first Summer Teaching Institute to learn the fundamentals of teaching in a college classroom.

Training sessions June 6-10 provided first-time teaching assistants with information about course organization, active learning strategies, classroom management, learning styles and assessment. Experienced teaching assistants who have completed the Graduate School’s  Certificate of Accomplishment in Teaching served as facilitators for the workshops.

“The teaching institute was one way we could reach a specific group of graduate students, give them opportunities to practice teaching and build a community of peers they can now turn to for advice,” said Dr. Barbi Honeycutt, director of graduate teaching programs.
