Our Stories: Why We Give

When textiles professor Peter Hauser fills out a pledge form every fall, he remembers the people who cared for his terminally ill family members. His gift to the State Employees Combined Campaign supports hospice organizations.

“Both my father-in-law and mother-in-law were helped by hospice in their last days,” he says. “In addition to providing outstanding care, they supported the whole family.”

Dr. Peter Hauser supports hospice care with his gift to the State Employees Combined Campaign.

Hauser, who directs graduate programs in the College of Textiles, looks forward to turning his pledge form in to volunteer coordinator Kate Ryan. “Textiles always makes a special effort for the combined campaign, and we set a goal,” he says.

Another reason he gives: “I still hope that one day I’ll be the winner of the free parking pass.”

For Textiles and the entire “Wolfpack Gives Back” campaign to reach this year’s goal of 50 percent participation, more Peter Hausers will have to step forward by Oct. 25. So far, we’ve raised $358,434, with 21 percent of employees participating.  Find out which units are setting the pace in the week four standings.
