Three faculty members in sociology have won awards from professional associations.
Dr. Ginny Aldige won the 2010 Greenley Award for distinguished career in research in the sociology of mental health. The award from the mental health section of Society for the Study of Social Problems recognizes social scientists who have made a significant impact on the field through their scholarship, teaching and community involvement. Aldige, a distinguished professor, received the Outstanding Research Award in 2004.
Dr. Maxine Atkinson, professor and department head of sociology and anthropology, received the 2010 Carla B. Howery Award for developing teacher-scholars. The honor from the American Sociological Association’s section on teaching and learning recognizes significant contributions to teaching sociology through mentoring and training graduate students.
Dr. Ron Wimberley won the 2010 Distinguished Rural Sociologist Award from the Rural Sociological Society. Wimberley is a William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor.
