Gorga Receives Alumni Award

Dr. Russell Gorga, associate professor and program director in Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science, received Iowa State University’s Professional Progress in Engineering Award. The award recognizes outstanding professional progress, personal development and distinguished community service by engineering alumni under the age of 46.

Gorga, who has industry experience with Union Carbide, earned a doctorate in chemical engineering from Iowa State University in 2002 and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at MIT before joining NC State. He has used electrospinning and other techniques to develop nanofibrous composites for a variety of applications, including tissue engineering. Gorga’s work has resulted in over 20 refereed articles, including a review on nanocomposites that has been cited more than 100 times.

Gorga received the Outstanding Teaching award and was inducted into NC State’s Academy of Outstanding Teachers. He has taught more than 650 students at all levels, from freshman to graduate.
