Dr. Laura J. Bottomley, director of the Engineering Place outreach program, received a Meritorious Service Award in Informal Education from the Educational Activities Board of technical professional association IEEE.
Bottomley’s programs reach more than 5,000 students, 200 teachers and 500 parents each year. She is also director of NC State’s Women in Engineering program, which aims to boost the number of female engineering students.
Bottomley received B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She earned a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from NC State.
